WEP – Wired Equivalent Privacy

WEP or Wired Equivalent Privacy or that is what it was supposed to be. Using encryption keys of up to 104 Bit length (up from 40 bit in the original release) it has failed to live up to its name. It is still being used in the IEEE 802.11 wlan standard, although better technologies (WPA) are available.

WEP encoding is considered insecure as it can be cracked in as little as 5-10 minutes, reconstructing the code from in and out going traffic. Yet, it is still better than no encryption at all, when used as a deterrent, assuming you don’t want to create an open free-for-all network.

The JukeBoxer

A trendy alternative to changing CD’s when you are having a party is “The Jukeboxer” software available from thejukeboxer.com. We use it in combination with a touch screen and all our guests can choose their own music which when selected from your imported tracks will add to the current playlist. Jukeboxer also allows video and karaoke files for the ultimate great night ‘in’.

With an option to send video, playlist, karaoke and/or visualizations to a second screen this software is brilliant. The support and information available together with regular updates from its creator makes this software a very good buy at under $30. It looks good, allows pre programmed playlists as well as random selections and after having looked at many music packages, this is the best by a long shot.
